Thirty-two men gathered in the Christ Chapel Student Center auditorium last evening for the first session of the discipleship series, “Adam: Where Were You?” The “Adam” series is a six-week series to develop rapport amongst men and to educate and empower them to step into the roles that God has for them. Subject matter includes lessons on grace and compassion, loving wives and family, meriting respect, taking thoughts captive, forgiveness and leadership and mentoring.
Ken Hanson shared thoughts about Gary Smalley’s book, The Hidden Value of a Man. In this book, Smalley presents the analogy of men being given two swords in life; a gold sword and a silver sword. The silver sword is the one we use to do our jobs, to provide, to earn a living. The gold sword is all about personal relationships and how we do life with our spouse, our children and those we come in contact with. The Adam series seeks to enhance men’s familiarity with and use of the gold sword in life.
Brother Isaac Davis set an excellent standard for the series with his presentation on grace and compassion which was well-received by the men assembled. Following Isaac’s presentation, the men ate a hearty meal of salad, lasagna and garlic bread prepared by David Duncan and Jack Corry. During the meal, the men were divided in to groups of five or six per table for in depth discussion of the concepts of grace and compassion and application in our lives.
Pastor Dave Semones recapped the evening for us and challenged us to keep thinking and learning about grace and compassion in our daily lives. The discussion continued in the small groups even after the closing prayer.
This series will continue next Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 beginning with arrival between 5:30 and 6:00pm. Cecil Pardue will present the next lesson in the series on “Loving Your Wife/Loving Your Family”.
All men are welcome to join us, but come soon as you don’t want to miss out on these provocative teachings.
This ministry is named B.O.L.D., an acronym for Brothers Of Love, Discipling. Our goal is to develop rapport among men, both young and old, of the church body. Then, we will build upon that rapport to foster spiritual growth to enable men to step boldly into their leadership roles in their families, in the workplace and in the church.
